CASTING CALL!

Caleb Rogers is producing an upcoming short film titled ‘Strung,’ set near Durham. This is a thesis project for Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson)’s noted Film Studies program. It is set in the 1980s and is a drama about a family living on a farm.

Thesis projects from our program receive a decent amount of exposure, and we are hoping to extend an opportunity to local actors to audition for the film. I wrote the film based on my father’s experiences growing up in this area - so having people who share that experience in the film would make it all the more resonant.

We are hoping you can extend this casting call to members of your theatre. Additionally, please let us know if you have any other recommendations for whom you think we should reach out to.

We would hold auditions on November 24th near Durham, and the film would be shot from January 2nd-7th. There are five parts we are interested in casting:

DANIEL - Male, 11 -13 Lead

Youngest boy of an Irish immigrant family on a farm in 80s Ontario. He idolizes his father but becomes disillusioned with him as the film progresses. Must be willing to pet & handle dog.

AMON - Male, 30-50 - Lead

Patriarch of an Irish immigrant family on a farm in 80s Ontario. A game hunter, he often spends his nights in drunken card games with his hunting friends. His drinking continues into the daytime, which wears down his relationship with his family, leading to an emotional reckoning.

KATE - Female, 16-20 - Principal

Eldest daughter of Irish immigrant family on farm in 80s Ontario. She is disillusioned with her binge-drinking father, and is scared to see her younger brother David following in his footsteps.

EARLENE - Female, 30-50 - Principal

Mother of an Irish immigrant family on a farm in 80s Ontario. She carries much of the burden of keeping the home in check, as her alcoholic, checked-out husband creates chaos.

BRUCE - Male, 30-50 - Actor

A hunter in rural Ontario in the 80s. One of Mervin’s drinking buddies, he plays cards with him many nights a week, and goes hunting during the day. Abrupt, harsh, borderline cruel personality.
